Learning Centre
The Learning Resource Centre is now at the cutting edge of state-of-the-art technology, with the introduction of Eclipse 2, the computerised library management system. The centre is offering improved borrowing facilities and is continuing to increase resources available for both students and staff.
The Learning Resource Centre was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Marjorie Barker on 10th September 02. The centre reopens with new advanced computer and audiovisual equipment, including flat screen monitors in our independent research area. The centre is on the look out for parent volunteers to help with projects run within the Learning Resource Centre. Learning Centre Aims
- Support the curriculum of the School and respond quickly to curriculum development
- Ensure a facility for students independent study and to contribute to the development of the skills necessary to being an effective learner within school and throughout life
- Provide and encourage all children's educational and recreational reading.
Behaviour in the Library
The use of the Learning Centre is given to all students provided that their behaviour falls within accepted guide-lines.
- Eating and drinking are prohibited in the Learning Centre.
- Books should be returned to the correct position on the shelves after use or to the Library counter.
- Bags and outdoor clothing should not be worn in the centre.
Students failing to adhere to these guidlines will be asked to leave.
Membership
Every student and member of staff at Waltheof School is a member of the Learning Centre.
Each Student or member of staff is responsible for Books or materials signed out in their names.
Overdue Library Books
Every Half term, the Learning Centre Manager will send out an overdue list to tutors. This will be followed up with personal overdue letters for each student. If books are still not returned a letter will be sent home to parents.
The Learning Centre Staff will not allow any student or member of staff to sign out a book in another persons name.
Lunchtime Activities
Monday - Friday
12:10pm - 1:00pm Computer Club & Homework Support
The Learning Resource Centre is open Monday to Friday at lunchtime for students to use computer facilities and get help and support with their homework. The Learning Centre Manager, Learning Mentor Team and a technician staff the centre.
Induction Lessons
The Learning Centre is committed to providing Learning Centre Skills training for all students and staff attending the School.
All Year 7 students are given an induction course. This consists of three lessons during year 7. Skills training can be given with emphasis on specialist subject areas.
Learning Resource Centre Computers
The Learning Resource Centre has a suite of 30 Networked PCs all with Internet access and an interactive white board. These machines can be booked by different subject areas during lesson time and can be booked by students and staff before school, at lunchtime and after school.
The Learning Centre also has 3 flat screen independent research machines that can be used by students and staff dropping-in from lessons and during break and lunch times.
