History

Teachers

We believe you can’t understand the world today, unless you know where we’ve come from. History is about today – it’s exciting, relevant and fun.

Accommodation and Resources

History is taught on the Humanities corridor. We have access to video, t.v. and interactive white board facilities. We also have a lap-top computer. History is able to book time in the Learning Centre at I.T. rooms when delivering learning through I.T.

Books and resources

Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3 we have a large selection of materials. These have been carefully chosen either to provide accessibility for our lower achieving pupils or to extend our higher achieving pupils. We have a range of videos which teach, entertain and enthuse our students and staff. There are a variety of I.C.T. materials – some are interactive games, others provide resources for students to use for example creating a power point presentation . Many of them provide visual resources which all our students can access.

Year 7

In Year 7 students cover Britain 1066 – 1500. They then revisit the Roman empire, building upon the knowledge and skills learnt in primary school.

Year 8

In Year 8 we study Britain 1500 – 1750, including case studies of the Civil War and Ireland. We then look at the Industrial Revolution, especially how it affects the lives and aspirations of women.

Year 9

In Year 9 we study the 20th Century World – looking in detail at the 2 World Wars and an introduction to the Holocaust. This prepares our students for G.C.S.E. Humanities. This year a group of students went to the Lowry theatre, Manchester to see the play Doomed Youth. This was very successful and we’d like to repeat it.

Our final course is Black Peoples of America, including slavery and 20th Century Civil Rights. This is an exciting new course with new text and video resources.

Homework is set alternate weeks. It might be writing, research, watching the news. It is relevant and helps you understand history and your world better.
