I.S.A.
Inclusion Support Area
For some students school is not always a happy time and for a variety of reasons students can under achieve and not leave school with an education that will help them in their future life.
The ethos behind ISA is to try and help these students get the best out of their time at school and this is done by offering various types of support.
Support is provided by The head of ISA Mr Tim Norris and five support assistants Alex, Bridget, Ian, Lorraine and Ros who are very skilled in motivating and sorting out the problems of these troubled students. The students are not taught separately in ISA but are supported in mainstream lessons.
Poor behaviour does not only affect the students who display it but can effect the education of other students when their lessons are disrupted or the teachers time is taken up trying to control one student. In a mainstream school this cannot be allowed to happen and the needs of an individual have to be balanced against the entitlement of all students to a high standard of education.
ISA is therefore not a special school within Waltheof but part of the school and as such students are expected to try and conform to the norms of behaviour that we expect at Waltheof. Sadly, occasionally a student will find this impossible and has to leave Waltheof to attend a more appropriate school. Although neccessesary for the good of Waltheof it is a sad occasion as we genuinely believe in an inclusive school.
Also part of the inclusion area is the school counselling service the Safer Schools Project, School nurse, and a family support worker all with the aim of helping students achieve the most from their time at Waltheof.
