Before entering Waltheof in Year 7 information is gathered from all of our feeder schools regarding students with Special Educational Needs i.e. those who have physical, emotional, learning or behavioural difficulties.

During the first few weeks in Year 7, testing is carried out with the whole year group.  This data, plus information previously gathered, is analysed in order for strategies to be put in place to help our L.S.A. students gain access to all aspects of the curriculum.

Examples of these strategies are:

  • Withdrawal groups for English and Humanities
  • In class SSA support in other curriculum subjects where lesson by lesson monitoring takes place.
  • Individual targets are set for all of our LSA students.

Our SENCo, in particular, works very closely with parents because their support and involvement is invaluable.

There are three specialist LSA classrooms which are fully equipped, resourced, have ICT provision and are continually being updated to meet the individual needs of our students.
