Curriculum
Curriculum Organisation /Schemes of Work
All years are set according to their mathematical ability. In Year 7, 9 and 11 students receive 3 x 60 minute lessons and Year 8 and 10 receive 4 x 60 minute lessons in a 25 period week. Each Year group also has access to an IT room at least once a week.
The Y7 and Y8 schemes of work have been rewritten in line with the KS3 Numeracy Framework. We have developed our own resources and have also incorporated ‘Ten Ticks’. We have introduced the 3-part lesson approach and students are tested regularly using either QCA Testbase materials or the Y7/Y8 Optional SATS. Springboard 7 designed specifically to target students who achieved Level 3 at KS2 is also used and these students have a Numeracy lesson once a week when they are taught in smaller groups.
We currently start the GCSE course in Y9 but will be gradually developing the Y9 scheme as we have done in Y7 and Y8.
At KS4 all students are entered for GCSE using the OCR syllabus A. This incorporates two pieces of coursework which we currently do in Year 10 and Year 11. We use the OCR texts specifically written for this syllabus. Set 1 follows the Higher Tier GCSE, Sets 2 and 3 follow the Intermediate Tier and sets 4,5 and 6 follow the Foundation Tier. The 2 ‘Making Connection’ groups are studying for the NEAB Certificate of Achievement in conjunction with the Foundation Tier of the GCSE.
