Year 7
In Year 7, pupils learn about:
- Investigative Skills in Science
- Materials
- Energy
- Variety of Life
- Forces
- Acids and Alkalis
- Growing Up
- Electricity
- Matter
- Environment
- Rocks
The topics are chosen specifically to consolidate and build upon learning in primary school. The teaching of each topic also enhances the numeracy and literacy skills of pupils through comprehension, calculations, graph work and spelling.
Year 8
In Year 8, pupils learn about:
- Populations
- Forces
- Elements
- Food and Digestion
- Earth and Space
- Living
- Sight and sound
- Water
- Energy
- Chemical Reactions
- Electricity
- Plants
The topics in Year 8 widen the knowledge and understanding of our pupils to be better able to relate the science to everyday life around us. There is a greater emphasis in year 8 on being able to develop skills such as handling data, looking for patterns, reading for information, library research and writing for a purpose. Again, this enhances the literacy and numeracy skills of our pupils.
Year 9
In Year 9, pupils learn about:

- The Active Body
- Sight and Sound
- Health
- Using Forces
- Matter
- Variation
- Chemical Reactions
- Electricity and Magnetism
- Rocks and minerals
As well as completing the learning of scientific knowledge and understanding, pupils learn how to write a plan for a scientific experiment, undertake practicals safely and efficiently, write an analysis of the results and evaluate their method and the validity of their results. This prepares them for the Science SATs exams at the end of Year 9.
